The Great Deer Hunt, held annually in Miami, allows disabled American veterans an opportunity to enjoy a weekend of food, fun and fellowship, as well as the thrill of the hunt.
The River Bottom Sportsmen, which has no paid staff, uses all donations to help with the costs associated with The Great Deer Hunt. Those costs include food to feed the veterans and volunteers, fuel for ATVs and tractors, propane for heaters and cookers, material for deer blinds, corn and salt blocks to attract deer, lodging, ammunition, warm hunting apparel and more.
The event has grown from a grass-roots effort into an annual labor of love for the all-volunteer staff of the River Bottom Sportsmen. We do this as a way to honor our veterans. This event symbolizes the values of our community and it is those values that make our community so special.
